OVER the years, the Scottish Design Awards have showcased architecture projects, including the categories, ‘single home’, ‘multi-unit’ and the more catch-all ‘residential’.
In other words, for an inspiring collection of multi-house design ideas, there can be few places better places than the awards winners and nominations, from over the years:
2026 - Here - The winner was Pine Place, for the New Gorbals Housing Association in Glasgow, which comprises ten terraced, large family homes and 18 flats, including two accessible flats at ground level. Architects: Reiach and Hall.
2025 - Here - Says the ‘gold medal’ blurb: “Dundashill [in Port Dundas, Glasgow’ is a vibrant, climate-resilient, creative destination where community living blends with canalside adventure.” Architects: Stallan-Brand and Ann Nisbet Studio
2024 - Here - A housing development in the foothills of the Ochil Hills, Athron Hill, was a joint winner in the ‘residential category’ - designed by Fraser/Livingstone Architects. The other joint winner was a single home, Caochan na Creige, in the Outer Hebrides, designed by Izat Arundell.
2023 - Here - Winner of the ‘multi-unit’ category was Simon Square - designed by Fraser/Livingstone Architects.
2022 - Here - In the ‘residential’ category for this year, the winner, the commendations and nominations were all ‘single home’ entries.
2021 - Here - Winner of the multi-home category was Spencer Courtyard, Finchley, London - designed by architects, Kennedy Twaddle (which has an office in Dundee).
2020 - Here - The winner of the ‘residential’ category was three individual townhouses: Havenfield Mews, in Portobello, Edinburgh - designed by Sonia Browse Architects LLP. Commended was Maryhill Locks, by jmarchitects.
